Jim Thompson - Killer Inside Me

In this novel we glimpse inside of mind of somewhat respectable county sherrif. On the surface he looks respectable, but deep inside him there are some anger and frustration. As a kid he raped girl of about two years old, and never got accused of anything, so his brother took the blame as local bigshot arranged for his murder. There was also some whore in town that society didn't want her, and he took care of that too, killing her and her customer. He also had a wife he was bored with and he killled her too.

After some investigation sherrif took the blame on the innocent kid who after some beating took the blame and hanged himself in his cell.

As it turned out, protagonist of this novel was some kind of shitzo. They moved him to mental institution for a while, but his lawyer came back and released him.

Things got very bad for him and as law enforcement came to his house he sprinkled it with alcohol and set in on fire. Very paranoid novel.
