William Lindsey Gresham - Nightmare Alley

This is one very psychedelic crime novel about travelling con-artists telling fortunes to foolish people. Each chapter of the novel is presented with a picture of tarot card, and protagonist of the novel gradually becomes more and more paranoid, delusional, until his degradation and ultimate destruction, when at the end of the novel becomes one of the freaks he was using at the start of the novel. Author of this weird novel was very troubled man who frequently abused tranqillizers and offed himself.

Guillermo Del Toro made adaptation of this novel, but it is shit by the look of the trailer.
